The Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays! It's super fun and there are lots of exciting activities. Every year, we make delicious zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) with different fillings like meat, beans, or egg yolk. Yum! My grandma lets me help wrap them in bamboo leaves.
The best part is watching the dragon boat races! Teams of paddlers race long boats that have a dragon head at the front. They move so fast across the water! The Dragon Boat Festival is My Favorite Holiday!
The Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays! It happens on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar every year. This year it falls on June 22nd. I love the Dragon Boat Festival because there are so many fun traditions and delicious foods!
One of the coolest traditions is dragon boat racing. These are really long boats that have a dragon head at the front and a dragon tail at the back. They are brightly painted and decorated. A team of paddlers sit in the boat and race against other dragon boats. The paddlers have to work together and paddle in rhythm to make the boat go fast. I went to watch the dragon boat races on the river last year with my family. It was so exciting cheering for the paddlers! The boats looked like real dragons skimming across the water. Maybe one day I can be a dragon boat paddler too!
Another fun tradition is eating zongzi. These are pyramid-shaped dumplings made of sticky rice stuffed with different fillings wrapped up in bamboo leaves. My favorite kind has a sweet red bean paste filling, but they can also have savory fillings like pork, chicken, or mushrooms. Zongzi are kind of tricky to make, so every year my grandma gets up really early to start preparing them. She lets me help her soak the bamboo
leaves and fill the zongzi. The whole house smells so good from the rice and fillings cooking. Eating homemade zongzi is the best part of the holiday for me!
At school, we learn about the legendary story behind the Dragon Boat Festival traditions. It started a long, long time ago during the Warring States period in ancient China. There was a famous poet and minister named Qu Yuan who lived back then. He gave advice to his king, but some jealous officials lied about him and the king exiled Qu Yuan from the kingdom. Qu Yuan was so sad and upset that he waded into the Miluo River to drown himself. When the local people heard what happened, they raced out in boats to try to save him, beating drums to scare away evil spirits. They also threw zongzi into the river so the fish wouldn't eat Qu Yuan's body. Even though they couldn't save Qu Yuan, people kept honoring him every year with dragon boat races and zongzi to remember his loyalty and bravery.
The Dragon Boat Festival is my favorite because it combines awesome ancient traditions like dragon boat racing with tasty food like zongzi. I can't wait to watch the races and eat lots of zongzi with my family again this year! If you've never celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival before, you should definitely try it.

Dragon Boat Festival Fun!
Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays! On this special day, we eat delicious zongzi dumplings stuffed with yummy fillings. My favorite is the sweet red bean paste zongzi. Yum!
We also watch exciting dragon boat races on the river. The long boats are decorated like fierce dragons. The rowers paddle as fast as they can, keeping rhythm with the beating drums. It's so thrilling to watch!

Dragon Boat Festival Fun!
Yay, it's Dragon Boat Festival time again! This is one of my favorite holidays because there are so many fun traditions and delicious foods. Let me tell you all about it!
First, there are the dragon boat races. Watching all the teams rowing their colorful dragon boats is so exciting! The rowers have to move perfectly together to make the boat glide across the water. Their drumbeats keep everyone in rhythm. The crowds cheering from the riverbanks make it feel like a big party. My favorite part is eating all the tasty festival foods. Mama always buys lots of bamboo leaf-wrapped zongzi for us. These sticky rice dumplings can be sweet or savory. The sweet ones have red bean paste or jujube fillings. The savory kind has mushrooms, pork, or other yummy ingredients inside. I like dipping them in sugar before eating!
Another yummy treat is realgar wine. Don't worry, it's non-alcoholic for kids! This sweet rice wine is bright red because it's colored with realgar powder. It tastes kinda like raspberries. Some people think drinking it on Dragon Boat Festival will keep bad luck away for the year. I just know it's delicious!
At home, we decorate by hanging pictures of Qu Yuan all over. He was a famous poet who lived a long, long time ago during the Warring States period. Legend says he drowned
himself in a river out of sadness for his country. People started throwing zongzi into the river to keep the fish from eating his body. That's why we eat zongzi now during the festival to honor Qu Yuan.
One of my favorite Dragon Boat Festival memories is from a few years ago. My class did a project where we made our own little dragon boats out of bamboo leaves, paper, and popsicle sticks. We even had a mini dragon boat race in the pool at school! My boat was painted bright green and named \"Emerald Dragon.\" I worked so hard on it with my best friend Lingling. Our boat didn't win the race, but we still had a blast.
Another year, my grandma taught me and my cousins how to weave the shapes for zongzi out of colorful paper strips. Dragon Boat Festival is one of my favorite holidays of the whole year! It comes every year on the 5th day of the 5th month on the Chinese calendar. This year it will be on June 22nd. I love Dragon Boat Festival for so many reasons!
First of all, I love eating zongzi! Zongzi are those delicious sticky rice dumplings wrapped up in bamboo leaves. My mom and grandma spend hours in the kitchen stuffing the zongzi with different yummy fillings like pork, mushrooms, chestnuts, and egg yolks. The zongzi are then carefully wrapped up and steamed. I can smell the amazing aroma all throughout our house! I always eat way too many zongzi during the festival because they are just so good.
Another fun part of Dragon Boat Festival is the dragon boat races! Wow, those big dragon boats are so cool with their bright colors and the dragon head at the front. The rowers have to
paddle in perfect sync to move the boat quickly through the water. The boats rock back and forth as the rowers use all their strength. I've never gotten to ride in a dragon boat before, but I hope I can try it someday. It looks like such an adrenaline rush! At school, we learn all about the history and traditions of Dragon Boat Festival. My teacher tells us the story of Qu Yuan, who was a famous poet that lived a very long time ago. The people tried to rescue Qu Yuan from drowning in the river by dropping rice dumplings in the water. That's where the tradition of zongzi comes from! We also read some of Qu Yuan's beautiful poetry in class.
Every year for Dragon Boat Festival, my grandpa hangs up some Chinese calligraphy scrolls and little zongzi charms around our house for good luck. He always buys a bunch of eggs too because eating eggs is considered lucky on this holiday. Sometimes we'll even get up really early and go watch the dragon boat races down at the river before it gets too hot outside. I look forward to doing that again this year!

This year it will be on June 25th. I always look forward to the Dragon Boat Festival because it means lots of fun activities and delicious food!
One of the best parts is getting to eat zongzi. Zongzi are sticky rice dumplings wrapped up in bamboo leaves. They can have different fillings like egg, mushrooms, meat, or sweet bean paste. My favorite kind has a salty egg yolk inside surrounded by sticky rice. Zongzi are supposed to look like little pyramids. I think they are so yummy and I always eat way too many during the festival!
Another fun part of Dragon Boat Festival is the dragon boat races. Boats shaped like dragons with a dragon head at the front go racing down rivers and lakes. The boats have around 20 paddlers who have to paddle in perfect sync to go fast. There is also someone beating a drum to keep the rhythm for the paddlers. The boats are so colorful and the races are really exciting to watch!
At my school, we get to make little model dragon boats out of bamboo leaves, paper, and other craft supplies. We decorate them with paint, feathers, pompoms and anything else we can find. Then we have races in the school pool with our little boats. It's not easy to keep them going straight! I always have a blast making my dragon boat and racing it.

I think that tradition is really silly but also kind of fun.
My favorite part of every Dragon Boat Festival is going to watch the dragon dances. There are these huge colorful dragon puppets made of silk, paper, and bamboo that take a whole team
of people to operate. The dragons slither and jump through the streets, chasing a fuzzy ball on the end of a pole that is supposed to be the pearl of wisdom. The dragons are so bright and energetic! Their mouths chomp open and closed and their bodies twist around like real dragons. I always cheer and run along beside them.
After watching the dragon dances, our whole family goes out for zongzi and dragon boat festival snacks like candied fruit, sweet lotus seed paste, and fluffy egg custard tarts. We sit outside and listen to traditional Chinese operas and musicians playing drums, gongs, and flutes. Sometimes there are fireworks at night too which is awesome!
I love how during Dragon Boat Festival, everyone is outside celebrating together. The streets are decorated with lanterns and dragon banners strung across the roads. People are zongzi from little street vendor stalls and kids run around waving sparklers. It's such a lively and joyful atmosphere!
At the end of the day, I'm always completely tired out from all the fun activities for Dragon Boat Festival. I head home stuffed full of delicious foods with my bag loaded up with little crafts and souvenirs I picked up during the day. Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival is the best way to kick off summer vacation!
I can't wait for all the amazing sights, sounds, and tastes when it comes around again next year.
